Wheelchair Attendant / Door Screener

JOB TITLE: WHEELCHAIR ATTENDANT / DOOR SCREENER

Position Reports To: DIRECTOR OF NURSING
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide assistance to disabled patients and their families in a friendly, courteous manner to see they are safely placed in and out of wheelchairs, beginning from the car to the reception area.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Meet patients needing wheelchairs at the car, curb or parking space and take to respective physician area.

  2. Assist into and out of wheelchair using proper lifting technique.

  3. Assist front information desk receptionist with traffic control and directions.

  4. Transport non-emergency patients to hospital when no other transportation is available.

  5. Transport patients to annex when family, etc., not available to drive next door.

  6. Wipes down wheelchairs daily.

  7. Performs temperature checks and health screening questions of all visitors and staff upon entering the facility.

  8. Performs other duties as assigned

No medical information is handled, maintains patient confidentiality.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Good attitude of cheerfulness and empathy – helpful as possible in offering assistance to families.  Kindly informing families that it is our responsibility to wheel patients rather than family member unless they insist.

CONTACTS:

Much contact with public and with each reception area checking wheelchair patient in with receptionist.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Primarily working inside.  This position requires employee to go outdoors to bring patient from car or to take over to the annex.

EQUIPMENT OPERATION:

Wheelchairs, Thermometer, PPE if needed

EDUCATION:

Required: High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE:

Required: 1 year customer service is required – will instruct on proper technique and manner to be used.

ABILITIES:

Required: Walking, lifting, stooping, reaching, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch

REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Must have full use of arms and legs.  Must have excellent eyesight and hearing.  Excellent communication skills required. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. or more when assisting patient out of car.
